ALL AGES NIGHT @ Tomcats
Deep Ellum- Sunday, Feb 27
DRAVEN, who are "endorsed by Jeezus,"
are a group of adults from Dallas, TX, who have come together for love
of mainstream rock-and-roll music. Their set consisted of both
originals and covers (ranging from 70s-90s). Frontwoman Hope Hendrix
seemed to add a new dimension to the songs- a strong, bold woman, she
seemed to make the songs seem new. It was very danceable music,
and the group actually invited its audience members to get up and
dance. Draven plays with such a high volume of energy that it just
makes you come alive and want to dance!
COMING OF AGE, a VERY young Fort
Worth-based band, played with more skill and craftmanship than a lot of
musicians I've seen twice their age. They are charismatic and energetic
on stage and off, and the keyboards really add an artistic touch to the
whole band equation. Emo-alternative conveying the pain and inner agony
of damn near every young adult's life.
GOD'S JOKE, a personal favorite of
mine from Arlington, has gotten harder and better over the years, their
sound progressing with their experience. Though they have had many
lineup changes, the core of the band, and the feel of the band, remains
the same. Vocalist Andrea, looking lovely as ever, sings with God's
Joke's trademark dreary sound, often building up energy until she
starts screeching, backed by vocals from guitarist Dennis.
