Dust Devils repeat with five nominations at 2007 TMAs
LINDEN, TX – The Dust Devils of Marble Falls earned a total of five nominations
for the 2007 Texas Music Awards to be held at Music City Texas Theater on March
25th, a feat the band accomplished in 2006 as well. The Dust Devils, whose core
consists of Kevin Higgins and Barbara Malteze, garnered nominations for Live
Band of the Year and Album of the Year, while Higgins’ “Amazing Sense of Calm”
was nominated for Song of the Year, and Malteze was nominated for Female
Vocalist of the Year and the coveted Entertainer of the Year award.
Multiple nominations seem to be more common this year as Doug Moreland of
Manchaca, Texas, and Pauline Reese of Austin, each grabbed four nods. Wade
Bowen of Austin, and Tyler McCumber of George West, Texas, are both named in
three categories and four other artists are nominated in more than one category.
The multiple nominations come as no surprise to award show producers Jinelle and
Lucky Boyd. “All the acts have been working very hard this year. We’ve seen many
artists raise the bar with respect to quality performances,” says Jinelle Boyd,
“We’re very proud of all the nominees and we hope they do well.”
Lucky Boyd said of the upcoming show, “There is so much talent in Texas. We
wish we could reward every eligible artist, but only five can be nominated for
each award. With Sonny Burgess as host, and with the line up of talent that
will perform, this will be the best show anywhere in Texas this year.”
As expected, Boyd adds, “With this line-up, and with Burgess hosting and
performing, tickets for this show may be very hard to come by. Sponsors of the
event, members of the Academy of Texas Music, subscribers to the
MyTexasMusic.com Armadillo E-zine newsletter, and those who are patrons of Music
City Texas Theater will have the best shot at getting tickets.”
