Live Review
Hard Rock's
first "metal" night featuring LaME, Halo Down, Lord Slugg, and Kwik
Buddha
Where to begin with this night of complete amusement? To start it
off, it was a new beginning for the Hard Rock cafe in Dallas,
Texas. Not only was it Dimebag Darrell's birthday, but it was
also the Hard Rock's first "metal" night featuring LaME, Halo Down,
Lord Slugg, and Kwik Buddha.
Halo Down started the night off with
some very balanced music with a combinatio of screaming and singing,
and quite a big of high diversity in their music overall. The
sound was very wet for the kick drum through the mains, and te vocal
monitor kept feeding back; but to tell the sound engineer that
would have not helped, for the sound engineer never stayed at the
console like he should. As Halo Down played and ended with their
traditional ender "Horns And Halos", there was, what felt like a
25 minute break between bands' sets.
Next on the bill was Lord Slugg, a
band known for their heaviness and crowd-interaction. With such
songs as "Monkey Sex", and "Cheeseburgers", the crowd loved the whole
show! On stage, the bassist's bass amp kept peaking out. After
numerous times of trying to tell him to turn down his ultra-lows, and
him not listening to me, I just gave up. Needless to say from 2
co-workers to 2 twin brothers, an all-around great groove-driven
band.
Kwik Buddha was scheduled ot take the
stage next.At first, it took a bit to get both the bassists on stage to
perform the show, but once everyone was on stage, the band delivered!
"Is it a bassist and a lead bassist; or is there 2 bassists that
jus tplay rhythm?" That's a good question to ponder, but i think
the question was answered for me lastnight. Listening ot their
hwole set, morespacifically, their last 2 songs, where their newest
bassist started using multiple effects on his bass, including Choruses,
distortion, and flangers. The band always puts on a good show
everytime i see them, and pulled off a nice surprise at the end of
their set when the lead singer/guitarist jumped down off the stage and
did the last portion of a song while running into people in the
crowd. A great performance!
Lame was scheduled to play next
afterwards.., At first, there was speculation as to if one of the
guitarists would be sober enough to find the club before it was too
late. Needless to say, he showed up at the last minute, and I
will say this, everyone of them was drunk. Dispite the massive
amounts of alcohol consumed by the band, they put on a
SHOWSTOPPER! Their show started and caught all of us off
guard, there was no uintroduction speech, just straight into
their first song. Watching these guys, I caught myself
screaming/singing the lyrics along with the frontman. With such
good songs like "Voices" and many others I forgot the name of,
This band surprised me with how on-track they were, dispite their
livers crying in a sigh of relief that they stopped drinking long
enough to play a show. Great performance!
Overall, the night wasn't so bad
The crowd that was there was giving the bands their all. The
sound engineer should have been handcuffed to the console.
Overall, the Hard Rock's first metal show did great, I thought.
There could have been more people there, but what can you expect?
Hopefully there will be more metal shows at this venue. It's not
bad at all.. The "All Age" fule really helps alot of the crowd now a
days.
