Live Review
Nitzinger
I had the "honor" of
seeing a John Nitzinger show last night"John is maybe most
famous for his days writing for BLOODROCK
, and a couple of solo albums back in the early 70´s, but he also
wrote and played
with Carl Palmer
(ELP) in the band
"PM" before Palmer decided to form ASIA. Nitziger joined forces
with ALICE COOPER
after that, and toured
with the shock rocker all over the States & Europe. They
wrote the 1982 album "Zipper catches
skins" together."by Mark Niedringhaus.2001. And the music at the show
was really great. What amazing talent
there! You just
have to get past the volume and the attitude. There is no talking
while Nitzinger is playing. No, it's not out of respect for
the band. It's because Nitzinger chooses to crank his amps so
that he can be heard from five blocks away. There is really
no ordering drinks even without the bartender taking the earplugs out
for just a second, so that the orderee can scream into his ear what he
would like. It was actually somewhat comical, but even more
comical is that Nitzinger still walks around with the attitude that he
just got off the buss of a stadium tour and should be treated as
such when, in
fact, I do not believe he has played in a studium since the
seventies. I'm sure he still runs into a few that recognize
him in a grocery store, but most would have no idea unless perhaps they
saw the dangly earring. There aren't too many men still out there
who still believe it is cool to wear a dangly earring. So, to sum
things up, if you like lots of hot riffs, rock star attitude, and
*ahem*
interesting fashion sense, you will love John Nitzinger because, as I
said, the talent is there. It is just a little too barricaded for
some to truly enjoy.
