Live review Pat Green American Airlines Center
Texas Stampede
Pat Green has built a career out of being from Texas. And what
the hell’s so wrong with that? You won’t hear me
complaining. He brought his good timing sound to American
Airlines Center Friday, November 12th as the opening musical act for
the Texas Stampede Rodeo.
Green fit right in with the bull riders and bronc busters singing his
honky tonk songs about beer and dancehalls. Touting his new
album, Lucky Ones, on Universal Records, he remembered to play his old
favorites for the appreciative crowd.
Opening with Texas Sun, he progressed to Fade to Blue. He let the
audience know it was good to be back in Texas. He had just
returned from his appearance as presenter at the Country Music Awards
Show. Pretty good for a local boy that started singing in college
town bars.
With a seven-piece band backing him up, Green rocked out quite a bit
for a country act. He sang his new tunes, Don’t Break My Heart
Again, Somewhere between Texas and Mexico and Baby Doll.
Green’s steel guitarist from Dallas was phenomenal. At one point
Green lay down on the stage and played guitar and sang from a reclining
position. His lead guitarist joined him. The crowd ate it
up.
Green required audience participation and the crowd sang along with
Wave On Wave. He made sure the audience knew his last performance
at Texas Stampede he was NOT drunk when he fell on his ___. He
said he just slipped and was not drunk until much later in the evening.
Pat Green is in danger of going “top forty” with his music. With
three top ten hits behind him, he is heading toward mainstream.
As long as he doesn’t compromise his roots, he’ll do fine. And
his coterie of dedicated fans will go with him.
