Sarah Radle
@ Six Flags Over Texas
March 14, 2004

When I first arrived at Six Flags it was a cloudy overcast day. Somewhere
along the line the sun came out. I think, in response to Sara Radle and her
band. I noticed during the third song of the set, “Insane”, the sun was
brightly shining down on us. Even old Sol himself couldn’t ignore the catchy
sound of this band. “Insane” is a beautiful song, lyrically poetic and
intensely played. The intro, with Caroline on keys, and Sara’s vocals was
mesmerizing.

Sara is extremely talented. On studio recordings, she plays all instruments.
She also does all the writing. It will only be a matter of time before Sara
is a huge star. This is a big compliment, because I have never said this
before. I am not much into making predictions, it is so hard to make it in
the music industry, but I can’t imagine Sara not making it. Her talent is
stand out and unbelievable. I was honored to hear the band and write this
review. Dfwscene.com did a great job booking the acts for Six Flags Spring
Breakout. Check out www.dfwscene.com to see whom else they booked for shows
at Six Flags this spring break.

The band played a nine song set list, without a bad tune in the bunch. Sara
Radle and her band have a folk/pop dynamic going on with hum able songs, toe
tapping beats, and superb songwriting. They made me feel good, even when the
songs had a sad tone. The band was fun to watch and they were having a good
time with one another. They were extremely comfortable on stage, I even saw
the bassist, Mary, wave at passers by. At the end of the set I noticed Sara
turn to the drummer, Rob, as he tossed his sticks in the air and caught
them. They gave each other a grin, as if to say well done. I like the band
chemistry.

“Pretty Boys” was an upbeat little number, with a good drum beat and nice
harmony. I noticed it received quite a crowd response. During the fourth
song, “Get Used To Disappointment”, I was so enchanted with Sara I wondered
if I could propose, or at least just be a houseboy. I think I should take
notice of the song title though, and just move on. The bass on this song was
excellent, as was Eric, on violin. While I’m talking about Mary, on bass,
let me just say I was loving the groove on “Whole New Person To Be.” It also
featured nice guitar work by David and Sara. I always like songs that have
“la,la,la,la,la,la,la, for some reason. Maybe I shouldn’t admit this! My
favorite tune was “Be Good”. The harmony this band brings is incomparable.
Sara described the band to me as “That Dog meets Liz Phair with Beach Boys
harmony”. I agree with the harmony part for sure. “Be Good” made me want to
do just that. With lyrics like “Hey kid you’re gonna be alright. Just be
good”, it made me smile for some reason. This band just has that effect.

I can’t highlight every song, but they are all worth mentioning. I have to
give props to Tania on backing vocals and hand percussion. She has a great
voice and should be featured. I think she fronts her own band also, as well
she should. You can check out Sara on her website www.sararadle.com.
