CD review
“Some Girls To Blame” by Dean Strickland
To start off, Dean studied classical voice, guitar, and jazz at UNT,
which is a great school for music. As most musicians he played in
many
local bands before his recording of this record.
This album conveys how much he loves and hates girls, but at the
same time shows off his musical skills! One song Dean is either
saying
he doesn’t like a girl or he still loves her. It kind of works
that
way throughout the entire CD. A lot of the songs on this album
are all
different musically. For example, track 1 is a medium tempo song
with
distorted guitars that sounds like a typical song about a girl.
Yet
track 2 sounds like an off spin of a good ol’ classic Joe Walsh song!
A couple of things that kind of set the album off balance was the
drum programming and similar chord progressions (maybe I just indulge
in more dynamic stuff?).
Overall I thought this CD was worth lending an ear to. Hopefully
his live shows will sound as good!
