The Corrs
Home
March 6, 2006
The Corrs,
internationally
famous for their blend of pop music tinged with the flavor of the
Emerald Isle, have returned “Home” to Irish roots in their latest
release. The Irish-born act of three sisters (Andrea, Caroline and
Sharon) alongside brother Jim, fill their latest offering with modern
versions of traditional Celtic favorites while also featuring several
new pop tunes.
The best of the traditional songs is Spancill Hill,
Moorlough Shore and the hauntingly beautiful Black is the Color. The
last of these three songs is flawlessly produced with orchestra and
features the angelic voice of Andrea Corr. Black is the Color might be
described as Vanessa Carlton (A Thousand Miles) meets Al Stewart (Year
of the Cat). Andrea’s luxurious and often-breathy voice is alone worth
the price of the album.
Home also features a pair of fine, Irish jigs (Old
Hag and Haste to the Wedding) that would be joyfully received at any
pub as well as two songs sung in Gaelic (Buachaill On Eirne and Brid Og
Ni Mhaille). One track, Old Town, doesn’t seem to fit on the album.
This song is a light and frivolous pop tune that should have been saved
for a future project. This one song not withstanding, if one enjoys
traditional Irish music that is well produced and contains a superb
vocal performance, the Corrs new album Home, is definitely one that
shouldn’t be missed.
