CD Review

MYPLASTICFRIENDS
”The Panty Dropper”

The CD was independently recorded at “MYPLASTICSTUDIOS” with Engineer/Guitarist Drew Emory.  Myplasticfriends is Jonathan Syltie on vocals, Drew Emory on guitar, Ruth Syltie on guitar, Kevin Blalock on bass and Brian Harp on drums.

My first thought when I heard the very first few seconds of the CD were “You’ve gotta be kidding me???  All that work and it sounds loike… BOOM! Stitch Your Mouth was started with a strong presence that would definitely change my mind on what I first thought.  The sound quality is actually quite good for an independent recording and I wasn’t sure what to say about it.

The drum work is very good and solid.  The tone of the drums were very nice and I was quite impressed.  The guitar tone was very warm with presence and had a lot of power behind it.  For a deep A tuning, the tone was not as muddy as some I’ve heard before.  The bass tone/work is just perfect in my opinion.  It’s not too bass heavy and not hidden in the mix.  It seems so nicely blended.  The vocals are a bit difference than the rest of the band.. The clean vocals seemed like they could have came up just a little in the final mix but the screams are quite knowledgeable.  Dispite the volume of the clean vocals, the harmonies are very nicely laid out and definitely can make up for the lack of volume.

Packing such fan favorites as “Drugs And Alcohol” (DNA for short), “Lonely”,  and “O. K.”, this 9-song CD is definitely something that any MPF fan would not want to do without.  It has become a favorite in my rotation.
