Article Brave new
world
It seems a brave new
world in the jungle that is the Dallas/Fort Worth music
scene. The bands today not only can they not make a living
but most of them shouldn't even be trying . The garage and open mic
nights for most of these acts should be the limit to the
reality
of the dream. Now not to be the cynic, and for those of you who don't
know
what that means lay the pipe down and pick up the the big book under
the Scrabble game and look it up. No doubt we have some good talent
here but most are not pushing the bounds, riding near the
edge, going for the new sound. Those who are, are few
and far
between .Right now their is the dallas metal sound the
urban
street sound ,the country sound and the goofball who's wife told him he
was good and to go out and get a gig just so she won't have to
listen to him any more .Now don't get me wrong she loves him, but one
can only take so much.
As a matter of fact the Dallas
sound has gotten so set that I'm not sure if you can even get a gig in
Deep Ellum if you don't sound like every other band in Deep
Ellum. Is it just me, or is anyone else getting tired of this
sound? I challenge the local bands out there to go out on a limb
and be different. The old different was to wear too much mascara
and spikes around your neck. I think someone should try wearing
hot pink in Deep Ellum. The new 80's era is upon us. I'd
like to see a new 80's band. Take the old stuff we loved in high
school to a new level. When the Mods stepped out on to the
streets of England the sound and the look that they brought onto the
scene not only changed the music, but also the lifestyle of the
people. This is what Dallas/Fort Worth needs, a new look on
life. And what is life?: art, music, theatre, literature,
fashion, religion, the things that make us all individual.
Oh yeah, P.S. I'm tired of walking into clubs that have giant P.A.
systems. It's like it's become a competition to see who can get
the largest P.A. in the smallest room. Hey guys, none of y'all
are reunion area!
