Jennifer
Perryman Band @ Club Dada- Wednesday, October 20
A small collection of friends and fans
gathered at Dada in Deep Ellum on a Wednesday night to see the Jennifer
Perryman Band perform, have a drink, smoke a smoke, you know- whatever.
Amid this cozy, laid-back atmosphere, the band jammed out, fusing blues
and funk elements into a single sound. It was a steady groove with
emotional songs like "Wake Up," and "Show How You Feel." The music was
slow and soft, giving each artist a chance to showcase his or her
talents. Perryman's gritty, powerful voice resonated throughout the
club in short verses in-between long interludes with a different person
playing the lead each time. Bassist Michael McKinney (The Jacksons)
played with such emotion, Perryman (on the keyboard) and guitarist Boo
Massey played with such accuracy- all with a backdrop provided by
monotonous drums (John Martinez) and soothing, harmonious keys from
guest musician Shueh-li Ong from Singapore.
