Michael Hutchence

CD Release

01.31.00

If you did not know, Michael Hutchence's solo CD will be released this week under the V2 label. Michael and AndyGill began  the project back in 1995 will finally be heard. After Michael's  untimely passing, an interview with Andy in Recordingmag tells of how the project was put on the shelf until V2 came along. Then, recording engineer Andy used a mix of adat, tape and computer digitaltracks to put together the CD we have now.

Iwas given an advance copy to review. Being an INXS fan, I was hoping tohear some secret in the 13 tracks; maybe a hidden lyric as to why ? Orthe  answer to question behind his controversial sexual demise. What I did find was  songs exposing some inner problems about michael.  Like song #10,  Flesh and bones. Or as in the song #4, Fear, the last line says " Alone with your situation" which is how he was found.Coincidence,  or foreshadowing of an unneeded death of a true star? The  last song on the album U2 frontman Bono finishes the song anddoes a good job. BUT, honestly, I feel there was no need. I think the workhas outstanding merit on its own. The unfinished song should have endedwith one less verse.

ThisCD is not typical INXS, either. If this is what you want you may be a littledisappointed. Although the CD does have some great trademarks you willrecognize as the frontman of INXS , the song writing style is differentenough to merit a solo album.  Pick up Michael Hutchence's new soloCD in stores this week.
